Community benefits

Over the years, we've built up a thriving community group which offers a variety of benefits to the local area:

  • The allotments themselves bring mental and physical health benefits to local people, of all ages and abilities, by encouraging:

    • exercise

    • a regular commitment to something satisfying and worthwhile

    • social contact

    • getting in touch with the soil and the cycles of the year

    • the joy of growing your own food.

  • We provide easy starter plots for beginners; and also, for people with mobility issues, specially designed and easily-accessible raised beds.

  • Our plot no 4 is handed over entirely to growing food for the local Cutteslowe Community Larder. The plot has its own dedicated horticultural expert, who is separately funded. Local people, including users of the community larder, and local school students, also benefit from the opportunity to volunteer on the plot.

  • We have installed a storage shed for allotment holders to leave a proportion of their produce for the use of the Cutteslowe Community Larder. We encourage plot holders to donate 10% of their crops.

  • We are actively seeking to build connections with similar local community benefit groups, to combine our efforts for the benefit of the local community.
